L’immagine di Chiaramonte si genera sin dall’inizio nella tradizione teologica ed estetica di H.U. von Balthasar e della Chiesa d’Oriente, incontrata in P. Evdokimov, O. Clément, A. Tarkovskij, e ha come tema principale il rapporto tra luogo e destino nella civiltà occidentale. Per la ventennale collaborazione con riviste e istituzioni nazionali e internazionali l’Università di Palermo gli conferisce la Laurea honoris causa in Architettura il 25 ottobre 2005. Nel 2006 il professor Italo Zannier gli assegna il Premio Friuli Venezia Giulia per la Fotografia. Born in Varese in 1948 of parents from Gela in Sicily, GIOVANNI CHIARAMONTE began his activity as a photographer at the end of the 1960s, working toward a return to figurative form after the great abstract and Informel season of certain tendencies of Pop and Conceptual Art. Chiaramonte sank his roots from the very beginning in the theological and aesthetic tradition of Hans Urs von Balthasar and of the Eastern Church encountered in the work of Pvel Evdokimov, Olivier Clément, Andrey Tarkovsky. On October 25, 2005, he was awarded an honorary degree in Architecture by the University of Palermo, for his twenty years of contribution to magazines and work with national and international institutions on the theme of the city and how people live. In 2006 he received the Friuli-Venezia Giulia Award for Photography.
